Call for Candidacy Statements for New Caucus Slate for 2027 PSC-Wide Office

The email below was sent to all NC members on July 15. Nominations from the New Caucus for the triennial union-wide election follow the procedures established in the caucus bylaws: https://newcaucuspsc.com/bylaws-2/.

Dear New Caucus Member:

In spring of 2027 the PSC will enter a new CUNY-wide election cycle. The New Caucus Governing Board is tasked with developing the New Caucus slate for the 2027-2030 term of office. As we develop this pool and work to get a balanced group representing our very diverse union, we have developed a process for soliciting nominations for a New Caucus slate for our PSC Executive Council. We are aiming to have our three-year nominating convention in November, prior to Thanksgiving.

As has been our practice in the past, we will be looking to balance our recommended slate with seasoned and newer leaders, as well as accounting for the diversity of our members in terms of campus, title, race and ethnicity and other qualities that will make a strong executive council. Also if there is anyone who is not a New Caucus member who has demonstrated a commitment to the union whom you think the governing board should consider for the slate, please send their name to psccunynewcaucus@gmail.com.

The process to apply to be on the slate:
Submit a candidacy statement (maximum 2 pages single-spaced) indicating the Executive Council position(s) for which you’d like to be considered no later than 11:59 PM on September 01, 2026. Please send your candidacy statement to psccunynewcaucus@gmail.com and address your message to the New Caucus Governing Board.

In your candidacy statement, please concisely address the following, with specific examples:

  1. Your track record as an activist and leader in your local chapter or campus and in the CUNY-wide PSC.
  2. Two major challenges (internal and external) the PSC faces in achieving our goals for our members, our students, and the university.
  3. A few ideas that you think are workable in addressing one or two of those challenges.
  4. One or two ways that you have successfully collaborated with others, within your campus, your constituency and with other constituencies in the union.
  5. Your commitment to the mission of the New Caucus as reflected in your activism. (See New Caucus website at https://newcaucuspsc.com/)
  6. Anything else that would reflect positively on your candidacy.
  7. If chosen…

Continuing members must be in good standing to be eligible to vote.

Remember that the membership year for 2026-2027 follows the academic calendar and begins on September 01, 2026. There will be another message later in the summer with a reminder about membership dues.

While the GB will present a proposed slate in November to the NC membership for a vote, nominations will be open on the day of the convention until there is a vote to close them.

Hope you are all well,
